Job Description

Richmond Center is hiring an recreational aide to work with residents at their neural behavioral program in Staten Island, NY.

DUTIES:

leading variety of activities such as games, discussion, art/crafts, computer, etc. with residents in group (large and small) and individual setting

Prepare room and use any equipment needed for recreational activities, i.e., tables, chairs DVD player, stereo, microphone, i-pad/tablet… Assure room is set to order after activity conclusion

Store and properly maintain all equipment and supplies

Decorate for seasonal holidays and special events/activities

Contribute ideas for recreational programming

Assist in adapting activities and equipment in order to meet the needs of the residents

Transport/Escort residents to and from activities

Assist if assigned, in arranging trips, outdoor activities/entertainment, contact with community groups…

Assist in transporting residents to and from trips, community outings and activities in accordance with departmental policies,

Document residents’ participation in their record, other documentation as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or its equivalent

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English

  • Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide programs according to residents’ needs/interests

  • Must demonstrate an ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action

  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with residents with cognitive, mental, neurological disabilities, as well as other staff, family members, visitors, government agencies personnel and general public.

  • Must have empathy, enthusiasm, be creative, willing to learn and seek new methods to lead interesting, meaningful activities/ programs.

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday

  • Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress of the position

  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of the facility, which include a medial and physical examination
