Nurse Educator
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Nurse Educator to provide training, oversight, and evaluation of candidates taking the Alternative Competency Demonstration (ACD) Exam for Personal Care Aide (PCA) certification. This role will ensure the successful preparation of candidates to meet the standards set by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) for PCA certification, while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
The ideal candidate will be bi-lingual English/Spanish
Key Responsibilities:
1. Teach and Facilitate ACD Exam:
- Provide direct instruction and guidance to PCA candidates preparing for the ACD exam.
- Conduct theory-based and hands-on clinical practice sessions for candidates, ensuring they meet competency requirements.
- Assess candidates' skills and knowledge during the ACD exam process, ensuring they demonstrate the necessary competencies in accordance with NYSDOH regulations.
2. Compliance and Regulation:
- Ensure all training and assessment activities comply with NYSDOH and other regulatory standards for PCA certification.
- Stay current with changes in NYSDOH regulations and implement them into the ACD exam process and training curriculum.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, progress, and certification status as required by regulatory authorities.
3. Evaluate and Assess Candidates:
- Conduct evaluations to assess the readiness of candidates for the ACD exam, providing feedback on strengths and areas for improvement.
- Administer written and practical assessments as part of the competency demonstration process.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to candidates throughout the exam process.
Language:
- Bi-Lingual English/Spanish (Preferably)
Education:
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
Experience:
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or educational role.
- Experience in long-term care, home health care, or working with Personal Care Aides is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with NYSDOH regulations regarding PCA certification and competency testing.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles and experience in teaching clinical skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to evaluate and assess clinical competencies in a structured environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage assessments, documentation, and reports.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Certifications:
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with nursing education, including clinical skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move equipment during training sessions.
