Recreation Aide

The Hope Center is actively seeking a Per-diem Recreation Aides for our Skilled Nursing Facility in Bronx, NY. The ideal candidate will have experience with recreation therapy/activities and true enjoyment of working with the elderly.

DUTIES:

  • Plan, develop, and lead engaging recreation programs tailored to residents' interests, abilities, and needs.

  • Create and maintain monthly activity calendars that reflect variety and innovation.

  • Document participation and progress accurately using SigmaCare, PointClickCare, or similar documentation systems

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support resident well-being and individualized care plans

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards while promoting a positive, inclusive environment

  • Versatile in cooking/baking, singing, dancing, arts & crafts, and technology to provide a wide range of activities.

  • Design & Implement recreational programs for Residents.

  • Work directly with Residents on units, without direct supervision.

  • Organize and obtain supplies and equipment as requested.

  • Assist recreation specialists & set up program areas as needed.

  • Keep daily attendance and document residents’ participation in activities.

  • Assist residents to program location and return residents to appropriate units.

  • Communicate related information to other individuals directly involved in Resident care

  • Be familiar with established emergency procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be upbeat, energetic, enthusiastic, and have a caring personality.

  • Enjoy working with the elderly

  • Exp. with recreation therapy/activities a plus

  • High school diploma/equivalent

  • Strong computer skills necessary 

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Experience working with older adults, preferably in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting.

  • Certification in dementia care strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of person-centered care philosophy.

  • Proficiency in electronic medical record systems such as SigmaCare or PointClickCare.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to create innovative and engaging calendars/programs.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
